Gold rate today in India

The number you see below is built from two prices, not one: the international gold price in dollars and the rupee’s exchange rate against the dollar. Both move every day, and sometimes in opposite directions.

The live data on this page was updated at 11/09/26, 11:32 pm (IST).

How this rate is calculated

The indicative rate is spot gold (USD per troy ounce) × USD/INR ÷ 31.1034768, multiplied by the purity of the carat you are looking at: 24K is treated as pure, 22K as 22/24 (about 91.6%).

This is an indicative number, not a jeweller’s quote. A shop’s price adds making charges, GST, hallmarking and a local premium that varies by city and by season. Treat the figure here as the floor that every retail price is built on, not as the price you will pay at the counter.

Why 10 grams and not 1 gram?

Indian bullion markets have quoted gold per 10 grams since the tola was replaced, and newspapers still print the 10-gram figure. Jewellery, on the other hand, is sold per gram. Both are shown above so you can compare a headline you read with a bill you are handed.

Why the rate can rise on a day gold falls

If the dollar price of gold drops 0.5% but the rupee weakens 1% against the dollar, the rupee gold rate still ends the day higher. That is not "gold demand rising" — it is a currency move. The breakdown above separates the two legs every day so you can see which one actually did the work.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as my local jeweller’s rate?

No. This is an indicative rate derived from the international spot price and USD/INR. A jeweller’s price adds making charges, GST, hallmarking and a local premium, so it is always higher.

How often does the rate update?

The spot price and the exchange rate refresh within about a minute of a request. US yields and economic data are daily series and are labelled as such.
